  31. For many of us, there's practically no sense *at all* in comparing
  32. V.42bis compression capabilities because it doesn't make that much
  33. difference in what we use our modems for.  Quite a few of the callers
  34. to my BBS have compression turned off, for example..

  40. I agree with you whole-heartedly about the hype, especially about
  41. V.34+.  I have *yet* to see a 33600 connection with my V.34+, and
  42. perhaps a grand total of five 31200 connects (out of thousands).
  43. Meanwhile, I'm getting just as many (if not more) 28.8K connects from
  44. my "other" V.34 (without the "+").  My phone lines are typical of
  45. quite a few places in the world..probably better than a lot of folks',
  46. worse than others'. Some of my sysop friends in other parts of the
  47. U.S. tell me they're happy to get 26400.  They're certainly not going
  48. to magically start getting 33600 connections if they shell out some
  49. bucks for a "+" model.
